Springtime in January

Reid and Grant are still fighting their colds, so we stayed home this weekend and took advantage of the gorgeous spring (?) weather.

Sunday morning was pretty chilly, so their wagon ride with their daddy called for jackets. I love these sweet baby bears, and I am going to miss these coats so much... I wish they could wear them until they were 12 and not get beaten up.

We spent a lot of time in the backyard exploring their new playscape. Grant's favorite part was the ship's wheel and Reid gravitated to the spot under the slide. (I googled "What do you call a ship's steering wheel?" and the answer was "ship's wheel." That's not quite the official nautical jargon I was expecting.)

(Some of these photos were taken at high noon, so they're totally blown out. NOT that anyone expects good photography from this blog, but still!)

They were such brave, big boys, climbing all over the slide and ladder.

Going down the slide caused some nerves at first, but with Honey and their daddy there to help, they were having fun in no time. First Reid:

And then Grant:

There was lots of goofing off...

... and a lesson to Mom and Dad that we seriously can not let our guards down, even for a second:

This was just moments before they were actually standing ON the table. If they can already get into this much mischief, how much trouble are we going to be in once they start walking??

Have a good week, everyone!

Colorado visitors

Our dear friends Susan and Will stopped by for a visit on their way back to Colorado on Dec. 26. Suz came and stayed with us for a few days during her spring break last March, but this was Will's first time to meet the boys.

First, a few pictures of Suz with the precious two-month-olds:

Seeing those pictures takes me back to what was a really rough, but sweet, phase with those boys. They were having the worst time with their naps. They would fall asleep, I would immediately sit down to pump (which seems like all I did back then), and within 15 minutes, one of them would be crying. I literally got nothing done all day long. Just thinking about it makes me want to pull my hair out, and yet I would go back in a heartbeat just for the chance to watch those funny little chubbos grow up all over again.

Anyway, back to Suz and Will. They had been in Houston to visit family for Christmas, and they stopped by for a couple of hours before hitting the road back to Boulder.

Thanks for coming to see us, friends!

Playing in the street

The boys are getting over back-to-back colds, with four days of fever for Reid, so the past several days have been reeeaaaalllly whiny around here... and I'm not just talking about the babies.

I'm still trying to catch up from the whirlwind that was December and the first week of January, so please accept my apologies for this post that's nearly a month late. My mom and Morgan came over on Dec. 30 and we took advantage of the pretty weather -- seriously, is Houston just going to skip winter altogether this year?? -- and played outside for a while.

You might notice Grant's busted lip and Reid's semi-black eye. The busted lip came from a fall, and the eye injury from when Grant pulled a box of baby wipes off Susan's coffee table onto Reid's face. They're all boy; what can I say?

This next one kills me... Grant with his eyes closed, letting the wind blow through his hair. I mean, who does the kid think he is??

Every now and then I'll get lucky and snag a picture that brings me untold amounts of joy. This next one definitely qualifies.

Love these sweet brothers and their innocence! Lord, help me to remember just how precious they are, even when the going gets tough.
