Life's a beach -- Day 3

Destin day 3 (Monday) brought gorgeous weather, but with the continued rough surf the boys spent most of their time in the sand again. This time they had some help from their daddy:

Their daddy and Poppy built a berm, but the boys weren't that impressed. UNTIL, that is, they saw a little boy playing with his trucks nearby, and he let them borrow one.

Eventually the truck's owner had to leave, and all hell broke loose on the beach. So what did Mimi do? Jumped on the golf cart and drove it right to Walmart, of course. These two have no idea how good they've got it!

The weather held up, so we actually made a return trip to the beach that evening after naps, but I didn't get any pictures. And Uncle Nolan (who the boys always refer to as "ONAN," with a growl) arrived that evening, which made for a fun Tuesday with a new playmate.

Life's a beach -- Day 2

Our second beach day started off with some pajama playground time, followed by three hours on the beach (until we got rained out).

Thanks to all the rain, the surf was really rough, so the boys spent most of their time playing in the sand. Thankfully there was no shortage of playmates, between Mimi, Poppy, Aunt Meg and Chris. (Reid's in the blue sunglasses and Grant's in the gray in these pictures.)

They got a little taste of the beach bum life, too, with a snack break that turned into a good 30 minutes of chilling in their chairs.

I love these pictures (despite the Alabama chair -- just kidding Jenny, we love you!)

And this is the point where I prove to you that moms have no shame by posting a picture of myself in a bathing suit on the world wide web.

Grant eventually got brave enough to play in the water for a few minutes.

But Reid was content to watch from the sidelines with Poppy:

They were happy as long as Mimi kept those juice boxes coming... and of course she was good for it. Mimi is always prepared!

We spent some time cruising around in the golf cart once we got rained out, and then sadly it was time for Meg and Chris to get on the road back to school and work.

After naps we rode down to the boardwalk for dinner with Mimi and Poppy, and managed to sneak in a few pictures on the porch before we headed out.

Dinner was yummy, but the real fun came when we walked out on the pier and emptied our pockets so the boys could feed the fish.

It was the highlight of the day for these kids, for sure.

Once we had all run out of quarters, we headed back to the golf cart... but not without a stop at the carousel first. These kids LOVE carousels from afar, but throw them up on the horses and all hell breaks loose. Grant actually did ok, but Reid went ballistic. First he was terrified of the rooster he was riding (he talked about it for weeks, seriously -- "No ride the rooster" -- and even Grant would say "Brother no ride the rooster), and then he just had a death-grip on my neck once he switched to a horse.

Carousel drama aside, it was still a great day. Not to mention, Ryan and I got to enjoy another evening out once the boys were in bed. Two in a row -- we hardly knew what to do with ourselves! Thanks, Mimi and Poppy!
