Because Tuesday was our last day of vacation, we decided to make it another double-header and head back to the beach after the boys' naps. But first we wanted to make sure the rain had cleared out, so R&G killed time on their balance bikes.

They love these things all the time, but having Uncle "Onan" around to show off for made things even more fun.

Eventually we headed back to the beach for one last hurrah, despite two cranky (and sand-chafed -- ouch) little boys:

It turned out to be a gorgeous evening, so we attempted a quick family photo (despite the fact that it was the one day I didn't take a shower after our morning beach time). It turned out beautifully, as you can tell:
The pictures were so much fun (sarcasm alert) that everyone else wanted in on the action, too. Here are the Wolf men:
And Mimi and Poppy with their sweet, happy angels:

Such special memories... little turds.
Mimi was finally able to make them happy with a leisurely stroll:
...until they spotted a seagull, that is. Chasing gulls was one of their top 3 favorite beach activities (along with riding in the golf cart and rinsing off in the beach shower). These two tried their hardest to sneak up on the bird. They weren't successful, of course, but it made for some sweet pictures:

Then it was time to end their first beach vacation with their #1 favorite beach adventure -- playing in the shower:

And just like that, vacation was over.
The trip was perfect -- sweet, special, fun, memorable... and of course hard, but made so much easier by Randy and Peggy's unending help and positive attitudes. Nothing's ever easy with two challenging 2-year-olds, but I think I'm finally a beach believer. We are so very grateful to Mimi and Poppy for a wonderful vacation and we can't wait to hit beautiful Sandestin again next summer!
I don't know how I'm ever going to get caught up, between things like Labor Day, Randi Kay's wedding, MY NEW NIECE, Halloween, and other posts I need to write... but I vow not to give up!
Tuesday, our last day at the beach, was the best one by far--we were finally able to find an activity that held the boys' attention for more than a couple of minutes!
They started off the morning with some digging and watering the sand. (Reid's in the gray sunglasses and Grant's in the blue.)
And then Mimi gave them the coolest toys of all--empty water bottles--and suddenly they were boys on a mission.
Apparently they don't need shovels, trucks, or boogie boards to have fun -- just some good, old-fashioned garbage will work just fine, thankyouverymuch.
The Wolf men supervised from afar:
And once the boys figured out they could use the bottles to drench each other, the fun really kicked into overdrive.

The bottles bought us at least 45 minutes of peace for the first time in four days. And when the shine wore off, the little wolves ventured into the waves with the big wolves:

We went back to the beach that afternoon after naps, so stay tuned for part 2 of this post...
