Reality TV

Here are a couple of videos from this past weekend.

The first was from Saturday, when the boys were playing in their exersaucers near each other and kept babbling and cracking each other up.

The second was shot on Sunday and is just some cuteness of them sitting and playing together.

Laying low

We had a great, uneventful weekend at home and best of all, these little boys didn't have to get in their carseats one single time from Friday afternoon to Monday morning. Don't get me wrong, they do GREAT in the car, but they already spend close to 2 hours a day on the road, so I love it when we don't have to go anywhere.

The only thing on our weekend agenda was a little Saturday morning playdate with the boys' neighborhood twin friends, Kaitlyn and Jake. Their mom and I were so busy swapping stories that I forgot to take a single photo, if you can believe that. Other than that fun, we just had a lazy couple of days.

There was plenty of playing in their "stations"...

...lots of (but never enough... for me anyway) Mommy snuggle time...

...some Daddy TV time...

Reid in front, Grant behind

...a few pauses for reflection...

...some funny face-making, especially with their new signature mugs: Grant's tongue sticking out and Reid's lip curling (These looks are definitely are not flukes. If you only knew how many pictures I have like this...)...

Could Reid look any more exasperated?? I love it.
...a little break for their favorite show, Miss Spider's Sunny Patch Friends (This is what their heads do every single time the opening song plays)...

Grant L, Reid R

...a little pouting for good measure...

(Are you kidding me with that lip, Reid??)

...some across-the-floor belly dragging crawling practice (Grant is soooo close!)...

...lots of sweet brother bonding while sporting their Clemson caps...

...and countless smiles, laughs and all-around precious moments, not to mention tooth-flashing! They're both up to 4 -- all on the bottom for Reid, and 3 on the bottom and 1 on top, with another hot on its heels, for Grant....

Basically, we live for the weekends around here. With entertainment like this, can you blame us??

It's what's for dinner: week 5

Week of Aug. 29-Sept. 3
Thoughts on last week's menu: The grilled chicken tzatziki was fantastic, and so light and refreshing. Ryan declared it in the top 2 meals I've made since we started this (and maybe ever). The Santa Fe chicken in the crock pot was also a winner and super easy, and will be especially perfect if it ever once it starts getting cooler outside.

It's what's for dinner: week 4

Better late than never!

Week of Aug. 22-27
Note to self: Next week I've really got to find some non-chicken options...

Mum-mum yum-yums

I know I still need to write a post on Ryan's birthday, but I don't have the energy tonight. So instead, here's a little glimpse into our Thursday evening.

Every day the boys' fine motor skills get better and better, so we've been trying little finger foods here and there. Bananas are too slippery and puffs are still a little too gaggy, but tonight we found a snack that is juuuuuuust right thanks to their older and wiser pal and baby mentor, Oliver.

Check out these big boys with their Mum-Mum veggie rice cakes.

Reid first:

"Do I have something in my teeth?"
And Grant:

They L-O-V-E-D these things. They loved that they got to hold them and gnaw on them, and I loved that they dissolve so quickly they're not a choking hazard. (Mama's a little paranoid; what can I say?) Ryan even tried one, and gave it two thumbs up.

This was Reid's face when he realized his was all gone:

After the near-miss mum-mum meltdown, we retired to the living room for some family playtime. Miller was right in the middle of the action, as always, and you can see one of the old Blackberrys (Blackberries?) Ryan unearthed since these two are obsessed with ours:

Reid
There was lots of crawling practice to be had, too. Grant scooted around and got up on all fours several times:

And not to be outdone, Reid hoisted himself up too:

But the pressure proved too intense, and he just couldn't take it anymore:

It looks like we better spend this weekend battening down the hatches!

Easy like Saturday morning

Here are a few sweet pictures from lazy playtime this past Saturday morning:

So in love with these precious brothers!

Uncle Nolan's fan club

Sorry for the blog slacking, but we've been busy this past week! We've had a day off of work, a 30th birthday to celebrate and, last but certainly not least, a visit from Uncle Nolan. It will take a few posts to catch up with everything, so stay tuned.

After much eager anticipation, Nolan arrived on Thursday afternoon -- just a week off his 6-month deployment to Iraq -- and immediately got down and dirty with his nephews.

Their first reaction was less than welcoming, but after a few tears of surprise were shed, they warmed right up and then wouldn't stop staring and smiling at him all weekend.

On Friday Ryan and Nolan went to the gun range to try out their new rifles and then, as we do with all our guests these days, we put him to work feeding and entertaining a baby. Here's Grant, thinking, "As long as he gives me my bottle, I will continue to be nice to him."

Success!

He also logged some quality time with Reid, including a little Air Force flight training.

And of course, Grant had to get in on the flying action too, thanks to his daddy.

Then the brothers loved on the brothers...

...and Reid even got the special privilege of playing with Uncle Nolan's phone. I'm pretty sure he's asking to call Aunt Lanie in this one:

Of course there were several hundred photos taken, because what would a day in the life of these boys be without a ridiculous amount of documentation. We worked hard to get a good one of Uncle Nolan with both boys, and after a few false starts...

...we finally got a keeper or two:

On Saturday I threw Ryan's 30th birthday party at our house, but more on that in an upcoming post. The boys spent the night at Honey and Big's, so we went to Dayton on Sunday morning to pick them up. And, as is our family birthday tradition, Ryan got the meal of his choosing: fried pork chops, mashed potatoes, corn on the cob and banana pudding. I'm pretty sure he'll be talking about that meal for months (and so will his arteries).

R&G were a little ticked they didn't get to enjoy a pork chop:

Nolan and Lanie were among the boys' first visitors back in January. After both being deployed and not seeing each other for several months, they flew to Houston on Saturday, Jan. 22 -- the day after Reid and Grant got home from the hospital.

Although we were super sad that Lanie couldn't come this time since she's deployed again, we are so, so thankful that Nolan was able to make the trip. Like everyone who sees these kids, he was shocked by how much they've grown. He also couldn't get over how happy and content they are all the time; he kept commenting, "They seriously never cry."

Nolan, we love you... but no one thinks you're cooler than these two, your biggest fans.

We'll see you in Georgia in September, and we hope you and Aunt Lanie can come back for the big first birthday bash we're planning for January!
