Georgia on my mind, part 1

I made the executive blogging decision to split our trip to Georgia into several posts so I don’t get overwhelmed with all the photos and memories and end up putting the whole thing off for weeks.

In case it wasn’t obvious by my lack of posts over the past 11 days, if you’re wondering how long it takes to get the Wolf house ready for a four-day trip to Georgia, the answer is: about twice as long as we plan to be gone.

Between the planning, the laundry (which I already do just about every day), the packing and the staging, there was no time to do anything else. Throw in a sick baby (Grant had roseola; he woke up the previous weekend with a 102 fever that stuck around for three days, followed by the rash), and it was all we could do to get out the door last Friday morning.

I woke up at 5 to get ready before the boys got up, and by 7:00 we were on our way to Hobby. Here are the boys waiting patiently as Ryan stood in line to check our 49.5-pound suitcase. (And that is no exaggeration.)

Hobby doesn’t have a Presidents Club (yes, we are travel elitists) so we grabbed a quick breakfast and then hung out at our gate for awhile. I set up a blanket so the boys could sit on the floor and play for a bit, hoping to wear them out before the flight, and of course we had no fewer than 5 people stop to chat and ask everyone’s favorite question: “Are they identical?”

The Brothers did really great on the plane. We gave them a bottle as we were taking off and then they both fell asleep for around an hour. We think Grant’s ears may have bothered him a bit because he got a little fussy during the descent, but we fed him some puffs and that kept him occupied and happy.

Poppy met us at baggage claim and then we headed to the house. As soon as we pulled in the driveway we were met by Mimi and Uncle Nolan and instructed to take the boys immediately to the deck where they were due to meet their great-grandparents, Nanny and PopPop, for the first time. I think it’s safe to say it was love at first sight, on all counts.

Maureen had stopped by too, bearing what turned out to be the boys’ new favorite meal—chicken and dumplings—along with their daddy’s favorite dessert, her famous pound cake.

Ryan and I were shocked that there were no tears from Reid and Grant, considering how much stranger anxiety they’ve been experiencing lately. But there was nothing but happiness all the way around—along with some very serious concentration.

After a while Aunt Meg got home from work, and there were more smiles, some flirting, and getting reacquainted with Bentley Beauregard.

Do you think their Mimi and Poppy were happy to see them??

After lots of hugs and kisses it was time for dinner, and no one was going to stand in the way of Nanny and PopPop taking a turn at feeding these babies.

Reid playing hard to get. It takes a village!

That last picture brings tears to my eyes. Oh, the preciousness!

Stay tuned for the rest of our trip in the coming days... and thanks to Uncle Nolan for taking so many of these wonderful pictures!
