This video is from tonight, but Mr. Hotshot actually took his very first steps--about two--on Friday night, just a couple days shy of his 13-month birthday. He walked from the ottoman right into my outstretched arms, and you know I melted. (Truthfully, it was more like a step and a half followed by a big lunge, but it counts!) And bless his heart, he was SO proud of himself! Then on Sunday, he practiced with Aunt Sassy for awhile and ended up taking 4-5 steps to her, and last night he showed off bigtime for his Honey.
It's really pretty funny, because he will only walk if he starts out holding onto the couch, ottoman or activity table. He won't walk from a person to another person, or from a person to something else--it's like he just needs some time to himself, without being rushed, before he lets go and takes off. And if he falls down, he doesn't crawl to where he's going; he turns around, crawls back to whatever he was holding onto, stands back up, and tries again. It's clear he wants to be walking. It is seriously the sweetest thing.
Reid's not quite there yet, but I'm sure seeing his brother toddling around will light a fire under him. For now, he's content to walk behind anything and everything he can get his hands on--their activity walkers, barstools, highchairs, push toys, the ottoman... really, anything.
Thank you, God, for letting us share in this sweet milestone and not having it happen while we were both at work. Our hearts are so full!
