The two best days of the week

After the whirlwind that was our January, the past few weekends have been a real blessing: low-key, relaxing and wonderful. On Saturday the boys slept until 9:15. That deserves a moment of silence and a hallelujah. NINE FIFTEEN A.M. They have never slept that late in their lives. We typically rejoice if they make it to 7 on the weekends, since their normal weekday wake-up time is 6:00 sharp.

We went to Gus's third birthday party in the afternoon, and I am so bummed because I forgot to take my camera. Reid and Grant had a great time playing with all the big(ger) kids, and Ollie, Otto and Gus were SO sweet to them. They also felt like big stuff because they got to have cake and ice cream. We got home around 5:30 (after driving around for an hour so they could get a little nap in the car), and Aunt Sassy was right behind us. Uncle B was out of town so she came over to see the boys and then the two of us went out for a glass of wine after they were in bed.

Do you think they were happy to see her?? And check out that molar in Reid's mouth... the thing is colossal!

Today brought sunshine for the first time in several days, so we played outside for a couple of hours this afternoon. We bought a fun little playhouse from some of our neighbors who are moving, and the boys love it. It was a steal for $25 -- I knew they would have fun with the door and windows. Opening and closing doors is one of their favorite forbidden pastimes.

{Grant... and of course, Miller can't be far away}
 They spent a few minutes scaling the slide when they got tired of the playhouse:

{Reid... with fresh mosquito bites. In February. Houston, you make it hard to like you sometimes.}

These next pictures make me smile because these boys are completely obsessed with plants (Grant moreso than Reid). I can't figure it out. They're obsessed with--and terrified of--them. They will nearly flop out of your arms to reach for the ivy on the side of our house or the low tree branches that hang beside our driveway, but if they get too close, they jerk their hands back and cling to you. I think it may have started with the Christmas tree??

Their daddy gave them a special treat by letting them crawl around in the back of his truck, and it officially became the coolest day ever.

It's fitting that kids with mullets are hanging out in the back of a pick-up, don't you think??

They ganged up on Miller until he wised up and ran away:

And finally, when they started to get fussy (more like, when we got tired of chasing them around), it was into the swings.

These two steal our hearts every single day.

With smiles like that, is it any wonder???
