Horsin' around

On Saturday afternoon, the boys' friends Miles and Addison came over to play and then we all headed to the waterfront. I was so excited for Randy and Peggy to get to see how much R&G love the splash fountains there, so imagine my disappointment when we learned that the pump was broken so the fountains were inoperable. Instead, we ate a crazy dinner (three toddlers + a five-year-old = anything but relaxing) and then walked around for a bit and watched a band setting up for an outdoor concert.

Sunday morning we went to church, and Grant broke my heart by having a total meltdown when we left them in their Sunday School class. I thought we were past that stage, but clearly I was mistaken! His teacher said he cried off and on for a little bit, but as soon as they went into the room with the giant indoor playground, all was forgotten.

Here are The Brothers with Mimi and Poppy before church:

After a disaster of a lunch at one of our local favorites, we came home and put the boys down for a nap. Mimi and Poppy went out to run some errands and at some point must have rendezvoused with Santa Claus, because they came home with a boatload of new toys for these kids... including stick horses.

I'll do a "Sunday: Part Two" message in my next post, because this one is about to be completely overtaken by pictures of how we spent a solid hour that afternoon. The horses quickly became an obsession: Reid couldn't get enough, sound effects and all, and Grant didn't want anything to do with them.

First Poppy had to demonstrate:

Reid caught on quickly and was in horse heaven:

And even though Grant wasn't impressed, he didn't want to be left out of the fun, choosing to saddle up his broom instead:

And let's not forget Poppy's ongoing demonstrations, which got more colorful as the fun went on:

Grant finally warmed up enough to actually pick up the horse (and dress the part), but to this day he still won't ride it:

Reid clocked lots of practice, though:

And then they rode off into the sunset together: two cowboy brothers, a horse, and a broom.
